With safety being Hatch Mott MacDonald's number one consideration on projects and in our offices, we wanted to crank up our already-effective safety awareness initiative a few notches. Jennifer Carlson in our Seattle office developed a very creative, fun and effective safety game to help ensure that HMM’s excellent safety record remains intact. (By the way, congratulations to HMM’s West Unit who recently achieved 3,000,000 hours worked without a lost time safety incident.)
This is how the game worked: Each employee received a bingo card, and one email per day was sent out containing that day’s draw – each draw being a particular safety topic. The emails contained a variety of additional information about that day’s topic in a humorous tone that was admittedly borderline off-color and hilarious. But these daily emails hit their mark by making safety fun and the bingo game engaging. So the intent of Jennifer’s well-thought out game was to remind employees about safety every single day in a way that made them want to learn more about it, and generating an overall safety consciousness among our staff.
The game lasted for three months with the first ten employees to get a Bingo receiving a $20 Amazon.com gift card, and the first employee to get a total card Blackout! receiving a $100 Amazon.com gift card.
